Create a Fun, Foldable Version of Yourself With Foldable.Me

Using technology to clone people is probably not feasible or ethical; however, a new tech startup in London will make cardboard clones. For $11.99, Foldable.Me will create a 3D mini version of whomever you choose and ship it for free anywhere in the world. The person who has everything probably does not have this.

From Foldable.Me?s website, using the 3D customization tool, choose the characteristics and colors of hairstyles, facial features, clothing, etc. that most closely match the person you want to honor in cardboard.

In about a week to two and a half weeks, depending on how far you live from the United Kingdom, the Mini-Me will arrive in your mailbox, already cut and scored. All you do is fold it into place. No glue is required. Made of matte laminate cardboard, each Foldable stands about 3.5 to 4 inches high.

Foldable.Me raised funds through Kickstarter. In less than a month, the team received 1000 percent of its request from 919 backers. This enabled the team to hire an illustrator to prepare the wide variety of Foldable features and also paid for tooling and production of the first round of cardboard sidekicks. More than 18,000 people signed up before the startup launched in early October.

Although open to the public for only a week, Foldable.Me has already sold 1,500 Foldables.

Richard Ling, co-founder, informed RESCUECOM, ?The idea was first inspired by cardboard toy versions of rappers Jay-Z and Nas. I got thinking, it would be great if I could create cardboard versions of myself and my friends. Researching into the idea I came across the CubeeCraft website. I used the template and made one in my likeness. After showing this to the team at Mint Digital and various other people, it became apparent from people?s reactions that we might be onto something.?

?Mint Digital?s annual hack week allowed us to develop the idea further,? Ling continued. ?In these four days we created a second prototype, sourced a fulfillment house to work with, designed the website and started to build it.?

?It is easy to make an avatar of yourself with Foldable.Me. It is also easy to find computer support and data recovery services from a trustworthy company such as RESCUECOM.

To explain the project?s Kickstarter popularity, Ling said, ?Foldable.Me is a very customizable product and at the price range I don?t think many come close to it. People were really excited by the possibilities. We had people telling us they?d be sending them to everyone for their birthday, using them as dinner party place holders and even wedding cake toppers. Coverage from the likes of Bloomberg, Wired, Huffington Post and CTI news in Taiwan, helped us gain wider exposure.?

The team is improving the website for easier ordering and more options for creating lookalikes, including festive Christmas options.

To entice backers on Kickstarter, the team asked, ?Ever wished you were lighter, cuter and more portable?? Now you can be.
