While everyone is preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, East Oahu families are also getting excited about an annual tradition that traces back about 30 years. This parade has grown in popularity attracting families from around the island and visitors who are in town for the long weekend. Sponsored by the Koko Marina Center and Hawaii Kai Lions Club the Keiki Kalikimaka Parade will kick off the holidays on Saturday, November 24, 2012, starting at 10:00 am. The procession will begin at the intersection of Hawaii Kai Drive and Lunalilo Home Road as it travels down a one and a half mile stretch on Lunalilo Home Road to Koko Marina Center.
Marchers will include local high school bands, dignitaries, beauty queens, community groups and much more. And of course, Santa Claus will make one of his first appearances of the year!
As the parade winds down Lunalilo Home Road, follow the fun to Koko Marina's Center Courtyard next to Assaggio?s with a Christmas carnival from 11 am to 1 pm. A keiki hula performance will kick off the event. Attendees are invited to bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots or make a cash donation and enjoy the carnival rides, popcorn, cotton candy and balloons for FREE! Then, at 11:30 am keep your eyes on the marina and watch for Santa Claus who will ride in on a speed boat courtesy of Hawaii Water Sports Center. Keiki are invited to take a photo with Santa and receive a treat!
Maunalua Communities Foundation will also be selling poinsettia plants for $10 just in time for the holidays.
